Hammertoe is a condition that involves abnormal bending of the joints of the toe. The resulting bend causes the toe to curl, much like the head of a hammer. While hammertoes typically start out as a mild deformity, wearing shoes that do not fit properly can further aggravate them. If you have begun to notice pain, irritation, corns, callouses, or bending of one more of your toes, it’s essential to seek out the expert care of a podiatrist. In the earliest stages, hammertoes are flexible and responsive to conservative methods of treatment. However, when left untreated, hammertoes can become more rigid and require more extensive therapy to treat.

As skilled providers of care, we use state-of-the-art techniques to examine, diagnose and treat hammertoe. When addressed early on, treatment can be as simple as changing your footwear, applying padding to corns and callouses, using orthotic devices, and/or taking anti-inflammatory medication. Many patients find that switching to more comfortable shoes with lower heels and more room at the toe can make a tremendous difference. Our compassionate team literally “walks you through what to expect each step of the way”. Should more extensive treatment be indicated, you can rely on our office for the best options in care. We’ll keep you informed about your treatment decisions, and offer our continued professional support throughout your experience in care.

At the office of Westchester Podiatric Healing Medicine, P.C., we’re dedicated to providing the highest level of skilled and compassionate care. For more information on our office and the many services that we provide, give us a call today.
